I mean, look at the headlines I just saw: “Goyard Bag Prices 2024: Complete…” “Where to Buy Goyard: Exclusive…” It’s ALL about the brand. But is it *really* about the brand, or is it about the, like, craftsmanship? The quality? That special Goyardine canvas-y thing?
Honestly, sometimes I think we’re all just suckers for logos. Would you buy an Hermès Birkin without the H? The Chanel Classic Flap without the CC? It’s a head scratcher, right? Some people are saying that maybe they’d buy a luxury bag without the designer name if the style and quality stayed the same, which is kinda the point I’m making.
I saw this article asking if people would buy a luxury bag without the designer name and it got me thinking, could you get away with a Goyard-esque bag that’s, well, not Goyard? A “Goyard-inspired” bag, if you will. One that, you know, DOESN’T cost a small fortune?
And okay, yeah, the real deal is, like, *the real deal*. Handmade, history, blah blah blah. But lemme be real, I’m just tryna carry my stuff in style without bankrupting myself, ya know?
And look, I get it. Some people are all about the status. The flex. The “I can afford this ridiculously overpriced bag!” But some of us just want a decent bag that looks nice and doesn’t fall apart after a week. Maybe something that resembles a Goyard, but, uh, a lil’ less… G-O-Y-A-R-D-y. Maybe even *brandless*.
Think about it: same canvas-y texture, similar shape, maybe even the chevron pattern (or, like, a *slightly* different chevron pattern so they don’t get sued lol). But without the blatant logo. Or, y’know, any logo at all.
Could it work? I dunno. Maybe it’s sacrilege. Maybe I’m just a cheapskate. But I think there’s a market for it. Call it “Goyard-esque,” call it “inspired by,” call it whatever you want. Just call it… affordable. And maybe, just maybe, call it… kinda cool.
