First off, she’s a *clone*. Yep, a clone of Laura Kinney, aka X-23, who is, like, basically Wolverine’s clone too. Think of it as cloning inception. Alchemax Genetics did the whole cloning thing, and I gotta say, they made a pretty cool character. Kinda messed up when you think about the ethics, but hey, comics!
What’s wild is that there were *ten* Gabby clones originally. Ten! I only see mentions of Gabby, Zelda, Bellona… and then it kinda fades off. What happened to the rest? Comic book mysteries, I guess. Makes you wonder if they’re just chilling somewhere, you know? Or… uh… *shudders*…were they, like, decommissioned? Don’t think about it too hard.
Anyway, Gabby’s like, the youngest of the surviving clones (or at least, the ones we hear about) and she’s got this awesome Honey Badger persona. It’s fitting, because honey badgers are, like, fearless little dudes. That’s Gabby in a nutshell. She’s got her claws and her healing factor, just like Laura, but she’s also got this really, like, upbeat personality. It’s a total contrast, and I kinda dig it.
She’s often referred to as Laura’s “sister,” which is kinda true, kinda not. I mean, they’re clones, so technically they’re… genetic twins? But they have a sisterly bond, which is sweet. Some peeps even think of Laura as a sort of parental figure, and even see Gabby as like, a daughter of Wolverine. The whole Kinney/Howlett family tree is just a giant, confusing blob, tbh.
And, like, I feel bad for her, ya know? Created in a lab, a clone of a clone, what’s up with that?! But she’s made the best of it. She’s got her own identity. She’s Gabby. She’s Honey Badger. And that’s pretty darn cool.
Honestly, I think she’s one of the most underrated characters in Marvel right now. More Gabby stories, please! Maybe a Disney+ show? Just throwing it out there. Someone make it happen!
One last thing, I’ve seen some stuff written about her in different languages, which is super cool. Spanish, Portuguese, Italian. It shows you how far her popularity has spread. It’s really neat seeing different cultures dig the character.
